I have DDR3 1800mhz motherboard with Max 8 gb ram and 2 ram slots . Can I put simmtronics 8gb ram module 1600 mhz in single ram slot???
Hello, Raghav.
You did not tell us the Make / Model of your Motherboard . . . :[
IF your Motherboard came with a Manual, or you can find a PDF version online via your Supplier's website's SUPPORT section, you may want to check for what they list as "compatible RAM", or MAX specifications for RAM upgrades.
If the system is old enough, it MIGHT be that the MAX RAM is only 4Gb, in which case an 8Gb stick would NOT work.
🙁
In terms of "compatibility", you will also want to double-check the MAX FREQUENCY RAM the motherboard can operate. I would guess that, if the CPU is 1.8GHz, then RAM at 1600 should be fine.. but you need to cross-check your Motherboard specs, with the RAM module specs, just to make sure.
((Keep in mind that 1600MHz DDR is "Double Data Rate" of 800MHz.))
This may go without saying for you, but I will mention it for the benefit of any others with similar queries:
BE SURE that your motherboard requires DDR3 (and not, e.g. DDR2), and then be sure that the RAM you buy for it is also DDR3. Since you're buying a SINGLE RAM module, we bypass a further concern...
.. which I shall mention for the sake of others:
When dealing with multiples of RAM modules, it's firstly better to deal with PAIRS, preferably MATCHING. "Matching" means the SAME Frequency (e.g. 1600MHz), the SAME type (eg DDR3), and the same CAS Latency (CL) number. Best cases -- and especially with a mobo that supports DUAL CHANNEL -- you will want a "matched pair" of RAM.
This USUALLY means e.g. 4Gb+4Gb "matched pair".
However, you CAN often have "differing quantity RAM", as long as other factors (Frequency, CL number, Voltage) are still MATCHED - e.g. 4Gb + 2Gb, BOTH of 1600Mhz, CL=12, 1.5v (or whatever).
**VOLTAGE is especially important with RAM, where (SO)DIMMS are marked DDR3 or DDR3L -- the "L" means "Low-power", typically running under 1.35v, rather than regular DDR3's 1.5volts. Matching this is IMPORTANT!**

TYPICALLY, Mobos with 2 RAM slots CAN operate with a single stick, or two sticks.
(1) Be sure you know which is "Slot 0" and which is "Slot 1" -- Slot 0 is the FIRST slot, Slot 1 is the SECOND.
(2) ALWAYS use Slot 0, the First slot, FIRST!
😀
(3) if you have 1 stick of RAM, it goes in Slot 0.
(4) if you have 2 sticks of RAM, the LARGER CAPACITY (if they are different) goes in Slot 0.
Without more info on your mobo, I (or anyone else) can't be as helpful as we might wish to be...
Hopefully this is MORE THAN ENOUGH info to help you out!
😀
Good luck!
