DDR3 in new motherboards

Solution
To OP - I have seen recently an article that mentioned that the DDR3 memory may damage the new CPUs that support DDR4 even if the motherboard supports DDR3 due to DDR3 higher voltage operation, so check that out before you use your old DDR3 with new MoBo and Skylake CPU.
Skylake supports both DDR3 and DDR4. Which type of slot motherboard manufacturers put on their motherboards is up to them.

If you want to use DDR3, you simply need to pick a motherboard that implements DDR3 slots. Most models use DDR4, so make sure to triple-check.

Solution

As I understand it, as long as the DDR3 RAM voltage is less than 1.5 volts, it should be OK.

There is a LOT of 1.65 v. DDR3 RAM out there, so check CLOSELY!
