Hello. I am planning on upgrading my system with new mobo, cpu and ram. I am set on buying a E8400 and plan to overclock it. Also im pretty sure im either going to get the maximus extreme or formula. However im not sure if i want to buy the extreme with DDR3 ram 1333 (Maybe http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231150 --110$ for 2gb) or 1066 (maybe http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227249--80$ for 2gb) ---OR--- buy the maximus fomula and buy DDR2 800 with more ram (maybe http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231098--47$ for 2gb) -----Take note that i have dual boot XP64 and Vista64....Also for each- should i get 4gb or 8gb? thanks for helping me decide.

Ddr3 will not give you a noticable performance boost over ddr2. But if you have the money and don't mind spending extra for the sake of having new hardware, feel free.

As for 4gb vs 8gb, 4gb is enough. 8gb won't give any performance increase over 4gb unless you actually use more than 4gb. For typical tasks, this is unlikely.

So there lot of benefit getting the maximus extreme over the formula? or should the formula be enough to get a good overclock on the E8400?
