DDR4 3200MHz running at 1600MHz.

Hi All,

So I've just finished building my new setup and everything seems to be fine except for the RAM.

I'm currently running x4 sticks of 8gb at 3200MHz operating in dual channel.

GSkill Tridentz (2x8 @3200MHz) in DIMM 1 & 3, and Corsair Vengeance (2x8 @3200MHz) in Dimm 2 &4.

Motherboard is the Asus Strix Z270E. CPU is the i7-7700K. XMP enabled on BIOS.

As seen in the images, Speccy says RAM is operating at the speed of 1600MHz despite the fact that it also states that the maximum bandwidth is 1066MHz. Task manager displays RAM running at 2132MHz which is 1066MHz running in dual channel.

There's a slight difference in CAS Latency in both the Corsair and GSKILL sticks. Doubt that'd be the cause though.

I'm open to any suggestions and I'd like to thank you for your input in advance.

Manually set the RAM timings in BIOS. Set all of the RAMs timings identical values. That shoukd work

Why are you running 2 different ram kits.

Your problem is the XMP profiles for both are different, because you're running 2 different kits with different latency. You will need to completely manually set the timings and speed, go with the higher latency first to get it stable then try the lower latency to see if it works.

This may well not be stable at all, you should not mix ram kits, especially not different brands and specs.

1600Mhz is 3200, hence the name DDR (double data rate). Besides that you are lucky its running with mixed sets of ram.

After re-configuring the timings manually, which took up more time than I'd like to admit, I managed to get it to work and even overclocked it. Task manager now displays 3297MHz. Thanks all for your input!

Thanks all for your input! I know that running 4 sticks of ram by different vendors isn't the smartest thing to do and don't recommend it...

Did you run Memtest86 to make sure the OC is stable for the memory?
