Can my Asus maximus VI hero use DDR4? I currently have 16gb of gskill ripjaws but im looking to upgrade my pc parts soon to some newer gen stuff to get a little bit more out of it...currently have I& 4770k 780TI SLI 16gb Gskill Ripjaws and Asus Maximus VI Hero..eventually getting 2x 980ti's soon as funds come in and possibly new motherboard if the DDR4 wont fit

Solution
DDR4 support requires either a X99 chipset using the 2011-v3 socket, or the new Skylake Z170 chipset with the new 1151 socket motherboards.
No you need either X99 or Z170 chipset motherboard for DDR4. DDR4 ram physically wont fit in your motherbaord the notches are spaced differently.

There isn't much of a performance difference between ddr4 and ddr3 especially if they are running at close to the same speed. And you would also need a new cpu if you switched to Z170 or X99 which would be a total waste of money in my opinion.
