Hi I own a Dell optiplex 390 and want to know if it would be possible to fit DDR4 ram. Now, I know dell themselves say that it will only support DDR3 memory but I have heard people saying they have got it to work with double the amount of memory than is supposedly supported so wondered if it will be a similar story with the ram type. Can anyone help?

Cheers in advance,

Robert

Absolutely, 100%, no. Putting DDR4 RAM into a DDR3 slot is nothing like using more RAM than is officially supported.

Double capacity is very common. Newer modules can be bigger than what was available when the computer was built, and RAM size always doubles. 2,4,8,16GB sizes. Low density DDR3 UDIMM is what you need. RAM types on the other hand run at different Voltages, and timings and also have different methods of operation that requires a compatible chipset to function. So RAM type varies with the motherboard.

Ok, just wondered if it was possible. Thanks again.
