Adoption of DDR5 depends on the extend of chip shortage. If one can't get the parts I want, I am sure it will have a knock on impact to sales of new hardware, including DDR5.

Yes, I think it will also depend alot on when AMD and Intel decides to adopt DDR5. If new Ryzen 6000 series and Intel 12 gen are only on DDR5, then we all will have no choice but to switch when we upgrade.

However, looking at current market situation esp. shortages, I think adoption will be likely slower compared to DDR4.
