I have a Dell Dimension 4550. The power supply went bad and took the mother
board with it. What are my options? -Q

probably took more than the motherboard...
time to start looking for a new system.
or better yet build your own.

If the system is still in warranty, contact Dell for service and replacement of
blown out parts. If not, the choices seem to be fairly expensive and risky:

1. Pay major money for post-warranty service and repair.
2. Buy the parts yourself, pay a little less money and spend more time.

If the power supply went bad, there is the potential that other parts were
burned out in addition to the motherboard.

If you decide to go for a replacement, I'm willing to take the risk and buy the
remains for whatever is OK inside... Ben Myers

I just got the call back. I will never buy a non standard computer again.
Anyway, it needs a new case, motherboard, floppy to fit standard case, fan,
plus labor, for $190. My cpu was OK and they can use my video card, memory,
and CDROMs.
Not bad in all.

Not horrible for a commercial repair. Quality parts would cost at least
$100. They bench-tested the remaining parts?
