My sisters PSU is dead, Instead of paying 40$ for a replacement on ebay or more from manufacturer, is it possible to use a standard ATX PSU like a 430w EVGA?

The Dell is a "Dimension E521" Desktop format, (Not low profile, typical Home & Office type)
Just checking for some feedback so I can look for the best approach.

Personally I'd rather recommend a different PC but she don't got the money for that.

According this this it's just a standard ATX PSU: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19245080
I note that it uses a 4Pin CPU power connector instead of the now-standard 8 Pin. But from my experience, those 8 Pin connectors all split into 2x4Pin modules, so you should just be able to connect one of the 4 Pin pairs and leave the other loose.

Hopefully the PSU just gracefully died and didn't take any components with it when it passed away. Sometimes they can, but there's no real way of knowing that without popping another PSU in and seeing (hoping/praying) whether it boots.
