Hey all...my hard drive is completely dead...not recognised in BIOS and doesnt make any sound..Is there any way i can recover the files somehow?? (Opening it up maybe).

Solution

Maybe, but it probably won't be cheap. And unless you take it to a data restoration specialist, whoever you do take it to may make things worse.
Do not open it. Ever.
Get a new drive and rebuild your system. Then, maybe connect that dead thing as a secondary and see what you can pull off it if anything.
If it's not recognized in the BIOS, either it is a bad cable, bad motherboard port, or a bad drive.
But the more you mess with a potentially bad drive, the smaller your chances of getting anything off of it.

The best choice is to simply buy a new drive, rebuild the system, and get your data from whatever backup you have.

Its definitely the drive cause i tested both the cables and the mobo ports..i really need the files and i got no backup..should i take it to an expert then?

In most cases, it could be the PCB of the hard drive is dead. You may be able to recover the data by replacing the dead PCB with a working one. It depends on the manufacturer and model of the HD. for more info, please visit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yn2eL4o-6Eo

Recently, the power connector of my Maxtor 320 Gb HD PCB was burned. I did some search and found a website offers PCB for hard drive, that is http://www.onepcbsolution.com/index.html. I found the exactly same PCB of my HD by following their web instruction. Placed the order. After replacing the burned PCB, I am able to recovered 320 Gb valuable data. BTW, a Torx screwdriver needed to replace the PCB is also included included with the PCB.
