Dead Island Freezing

My friend games is freezing every 2 minutes or so for 5 seconds and goes black for 3 then freezes for another 2 seconds on resolution 1920x1080 (lowest and highest settings). Then he switched it lower to 1280x720 (lowest and highest settings) and the freezing only occurred every 5-10 minutes or so. My friend and i went through many forums for hours not finding any working solutions and he has a decent computer. (specs below)
ps-his computer runs all games(bf3) on highest settings with no problems like this


cpu-i5 2400k 3.1
video-radeon hd 6870
mobo-msi 7681
normal 7200 rpm hard drive

I have the same problem but I haven't changed anything.

I have:
Cpu: i7-3820 3.6ghz
video: amd radeon 7850
mobo: asus p9x79


my game runs for a while and then starts to freeze for a few seconds and then goes black and then right after that fixes up again. After this first happens while playing it starts doing it frequently every few minutes.

i have the game and finished it and played the dlc didnt face any problem, i have an nvidia gtx470.

do you have the game updated on latest patch?
latest drivers?

in CC rest to default then disable Vsync
try to go to my documents\deadisland\out\settings\video.scr, open it in notepad, and change VSync() to VSync(disable)

Dead Island is a buggy game. I've heard of the game causing issues such as overheating of the CPU while playing it.
Is your friend's game patched?
Oh and there is no 2400k. Only a 2400. Just though that you might have wanted to know.
