Question Dead Monitor

I have a question on dual monitors.

I've been running dual monitors since around 2001, as far back as my purchase history will look I've had the following

2 Benq 22" WSXGA+ LCD 1650 x 1050 Bought 2007
2 Asus 27" VE278Q 1920 x 1080 Bought 2012
2 LG 27" 27UD58P-B 3840 x 2160 Bought 2018

I seem to only get about 5-6 years out of them till one of them starts having issues, which im ok with since i leave them on 24/7 with my computer. The thing i have noticed is its always the secondary screen that dies on me, my brother is still running one BenQ and an Asus screen that were my primary screens. I dont lock the computer its always left on the desktop, 90% of the time its a black wallpaper and all icons are on primary screen. Is leaving just a black screen that hard on a monitor? Anyone else running dual screens notice the secondary screen die before the primary?

I'm now torn between replacing both monitors with new ones, probably 32's this time, or going for a larger curved 49"

Does anyone have any recommendations?

For curved was looing at
Samsung 49" G93SC Link
Asus XG49WCR Link
Asus XG49VQ Link

for dual
Samsung UJ59 32" 4K Link
LG Ultrawide QHD 34" Link

Any other ideas for monitors?

Why not have the power settings for the panel in you OS, assuming you're on Windows OS environment) to set your display to off if your system is idle for 1min or so? It doesn't lock your screen just puts the panels to sleep when no input is given to the PC.

Nope. in fact I think you should look into the grounding in your wall outlet/abode. They can and will knock out electronic devices.

If I were you, I'd stick to two physical panels. As for the purchase, I'd get two identical panels t keep the setup uniform.

The BenQ monitors were the only time i didnt buy 2 monitors at the same time, think it was like a week apart. But yes i always get 2 of the same exact model.

As for power, i know both Asus and LG have been only in this house. I know the power is fine as i ran 3 20Amp circuits to that room, 1 for the room and 2 right behind the desk. As for the electrical I have a Square D QO 200 amp panel, neutral and ground are bonded, and have 2 5/8" 8 foot copper rods 8 feet deep 10 feet apart out side.

As for having the screens go to sleep, i never really thought about it. Having a 5-6 year run with the screens was ok with me because i ether upgraded the size or resolution. I just found it weird that A) its always around 5 years that one dies and B) its always the secondary monitor.

When i get the new monitors i'll probably setup the screen timer and have them turn off.

Any chance of some ground loop adversely affecting the second monitor?

What about physically swapping the two monitors every so often?

May gain a bit more life from them - or they both go at the same time? 🙁

I would put a Kill-A-Watt meter on the power plug for each respective monitor to check wattages from time to time. If the monitors are identical I woul expect each to show the same wattage. Perhaps with some TBD amount of + or - tolerance.

I wouldn't think so, both monitors were plugged into the same outlet by ether a surge protector, or i think around 2020 a battery backup unit.

Trying to physically switch monitors would be a pain in the butt, one sits on the desk and the other is on a wall mount so it hangs right above the other. I did take Lutfij advice and put a timer on the monitors so they turn off if im not using the computer.

Like i said above im not sad that they only last 5 years, as you can see every time i get new ones its ether bigger or i change resolutions. I've now gone with the LG 34" ultraWide, which over the long weekend took a bit to get use to but like as i can open 2 internet pages side by side on each screen.
