Dead NEC pixel question

I bought an NEC 1700V flat panel less than a month ago, and I have a dead pixel, which appears as a bright red pinprick on the screen.

I have spoken to NEC's warranty people, and they specify that they will not replace the panel for less than 6 dead pixels ...

However, I have heard that you can 'massage' the area of the panel with the dead pixel with your thumb, and you can get them it come back to life. Is this a myth or does anyone know if this can work?

Hope it does work cos I forked out nearly £500 for this screen and the dead pixel is frankly pissing me off.

Thanks for any replies ...

In most cases a dead / stuck pixel is the result of damage to the transistor in that cell. If you see a row or columns of dead sub pixels odd are it is a problem with the row/column driver chip. I have heard of the massaging technique yet I have never seen it actually work. If it is a damaged transistor all the massaging in the world isn’t going to fix it. I advise against it for fear of damaging cells around the bad one.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I kinda figured a dead pixel was exactly that. I tried massaging it last night to no avail.

Adjusted the brightness and contrast and colour settings so now the pixel is hardly visible, and you kinda get used to it and forget about it once you know its there.
