I have a Dell Optiplex 780 Tower, as far as I know it's dead. Machine was off one morning. And it wouldn't come on. I ended up ordering a Dell Optiplex 790 from Amazon (Refurbished) The picture of the System was a Tower Case. It took two weeks for it to ship. But what I got was a Optiplex 790 Small Form Factor. Not what I ordered. But anyway, I was taking a computer course and I needed a working system. The 790 SFF has a i5 Processor. I'm getting SSD/HDD Fan Errors now. I have set the Fans on Max. I want to take the Guts out of this 790 and Put them in a Tower Case. I have 3 Dell Cases with Dell Hardware. They are all AMD Motherboards. The Optiplex 780 as far as I know the motherboard and system works, just needs a power supply. So I can either take one of the Power Supplies out of the other Dell System Cases I have. Or is there a way to repair the Power Supply...
Or am I going about this all the wrong way and over thinking it.. I don't own anything "NEW"... Haven't in Years.

They have 4 SKU's, which tower do you have from the OptiPlex 780 lineup?

This might be a worthwhile read;

+ there's nothing serviceable inside a PSU, you replace it with a like for like unit or with an adapter if your motherboard has a proprietary connector and there's an adapter for it.

PSU's are known as the heart of a system, if that croaks, everything connected to croaking PSU will be taken out.
