Deal on a 19" Monitor

A store near me has two (and two only) Samsung 943BM Plus 19" monitors. This is it:

He will give me two of them for a total of 125 British pounds (406 USD). If I am not mistaken, this is a GREAT deal and I should jump at it.

I have been looking to replace my old 17" CRTs but I use two, so a regular wide screen 19" doesn't seem to work for me--this monitor is square, however.

two of them for USD 406 equals single one for USD 200. I wouldn't say its a great deal considering they're only 19".

I recently bought a Hans G monitor, 28" HD 1080p for USD 300. Its not a very famous brand, but over 1000 reviews on newegg and it has 5 eggs, and also won like 6 customer choice awards on newegg. I received mine with zero dead pixels, and they guarantee replacement if you receive monitor with even one dead pixel.

So, look if you can get a Hans G 28" monitor where you live. It'll work out cheaper and looks a lot better. And with Windows 7, its very easy to manage multiple windows on a single screen (windws key + left/right/up arrow)

Well, yes it's less money, but it's less real estate as well. That monitor's standard resolution appears to be 1920 x 1200 which is 2.3 million pixels whereas the 19" I am looking at is 1280x1024 which doubled is 2560x1024 which is 2.6 mil. pixels. Hmm, on second thought, you are right--it's a better "pixel per dollar" price.

Compare both to what I have today which is 1024x768 doubled which is 2048x768 which is 1.5 million pixels.

So the only drawback of a 28" is that it's less wide than what I have today.

This is fantastic. Now I just have to decide what to do...

Because two 19s sounds better than on 28, and its cheaper. BUT if I could get one 30 or 32 then maybe that would be BEST. But maybe it would be too big.

Yes, this was my mistake. The price I was given is 406 USD. I tried (and failed) to convert to Pounds only b/c I access this site as .co.uk, do to my IP address.

single 28" is better than two 19" real-estate wise coz if you're watching movies / playing games etc you can utilise the entire 28". in case of two 19" monitors, you can either use only one monitor to watch movies / play games or have an ugly black frame/panel in the middle. and as CRTs go, the borders can be quite thick.

The only 2560x1600 monitors that I know of come in 30" size only. I have been looking for one larger.
They will hold the equivalent of two 1920x1200 monitors, but I find the text to be too small for my eyes.

1920 x1200 come in several sizes, conmmonly 24" but going up to 28" or so. You can find 1080P(1920x1080) TV monitors in very large sizes up to 65", perhaps more. The larger sizes will have larger pixels, so you have to evaluate how close you can be.

I find two monitors to be very useful. You can watch TV on one, and surf on the other during commercials.

As to the value of the OP's deal, I can't say. Monitors with lower viewing angles like 160 degrees are cheaper, but not as good as those with 178 degrees.

Actually the reviews on that page are pretty UNimpressive. For a guy who sits all day coding in front of a PC, a good screen is important I think. Also the reviews for "Hans G monitor, 28" HD" are mixed to not so great.

I don't do games nor video so I don't mind 2 screens.

I am willing to pay more for this Samsung IF it's really a better monitor and will be better on my eyes.

Can anyone confirm or deny that this is a very good monitor?

Captain Dirk, if you do a lot of coding, you must, and absolutely MUST go for two screens over one. I code at work on two screens and I simply cannot put it in words how useful two screens are over a single screen, even if it is much larger.

I would reccomend a single larger sscreen if games / movies were a priority.
