And Seiki has managed to make a 39" 4K TV for $500 an a 50" for $770. Yeah, I know they aren't the same quality panels. What they have really proved is that you can make 4K panels for little more than their 1080p counterparts. Showing that manufacturers are just bilking early adopters. Whereas if they simply manufactured them at full line capacity they would cost little more than 1080p.

Part of the reason is the risk of not selling them. But seriously how many will choose 1080p monitors if they can get 4K units for 20% to 30% more?
