okay, so i have been working on recovering some files from a freinds hard drive that has IRREPLACABLE buisness and tax documents. this friend of mine just got fired, and needs to return theses files in readable contion to her previous employer or will be facing a lawsuit. i am stumped and only have 2 days. she tried to restore the drive to windows factory default, realized she forgot to transfer the files to a thumb drive, and shut off the reset at 1%. none of the windows boot tools help, and recuva couldnt recognize the filesystem even though i was told it would work. im fairlyt ceratin it is just the boot partition that is messed up and i know the file path of the folder i need to save. i need help here.

A 1% reset probably means you have NTFS file system damage. So restoring the partition structure will not help. I would suggest a scan using DMDE. It can reconstruct using the remaining MFT file fragments.
Shutting it off at 1% has likely screwed up the whole partition.

Recuva
TestDisk
A Linux LiveCD.

If none of those efforts work, then you have to balance the cost of the lawsuit vs the cost of a data recovery company.

For future reference, "IRREPLACABLE buisness and tax documents" should always be backed up to a second location.
Always.

ive tried recuva and nothing. im trying Active@ Partition Recovery. if i were the one to be using the computer i would have had everything backed up. and seeing as how its a multi-million dollar limousin company, id expect mandatory backups to a private server, but apparently they dont do that. this program seems to be working and ill be bringing the user over to verify all the files before sending them back to the main branch of the company.
