I am in need of building a pc. For around 500 or so. I already have a 500w psu, case, mouse, keybord, disc drive, and monitor. Im looking for a light/ medium gaming rig. would like a quad core cpu (preferably one that i can overclock), 8 gb of ram. I know windows is 100 bucks. so there is around $400 for a mobo, cpu, ram, graphics card, and hard drive.
i dont need any 1440p. 1080p is fine for right now, i can always upgrade the gpu later. Am i missing anything guys? Any help is appreciated.

This is the best I could come up with considering you want to overclock.

This is a much better build & will allow you to upgrade in the future, however, you can't overclock.

Id take his advice ^. That's about the best you can get for that much money, unless you can find a 660ti graphics card second-hand. They're far superior to the 750ti.

But the msi mobo supports triple gpu's and has 4 ram slots. (so it would be cheaper to upgrade the ram down the road, wouldnt it?)

I don't see why you would ever need to run 3 GPUs lol

As for the RAM slots, if you want, you can get an ATX MoBo instead of a micro. It'll cost a bit more, but will give you the option to run 2x dual channel (4 sticks). Also, most people only run 2 sticks (2x4 or 2x8), so you aren't "missing" anything by only having 2 RAM slots. With your budget, it's a great start.

i ended up going a slightly different rout after some research. let me know what you think. i wanted a good starting point so i went with msi's z97 gaming 5 mobo, intel i3 4150k haswell, 8 GB (2x4gb) kingston hyperx t1 pc3 12800 ram, a 1tb wd black hdd,. i had an old xfx ati radeon r7770 dd edition gpu (yes i will be upgrading when i can afford it), and a 500w psu. i will be using win 7 ultimate, i just prefer it to 8. and ill upgrade to 10 if its any good.
i went with something that i believe can be upgraded for some time. And it can be overckocked. This is my first build, and its also wayy late after a long day at work so i apologize for the typos and grammatical errors.
