Hello,

Not too long ago, I was able to buy a used (hardly used actually) Ryzen 5 1600 for.....$35
I need a motherboard, and will probably go with 2 x 8GB RAM DDR4 3200
I'm not a gamer, and I don't think I will try to O/C....I just want to finally install my Ryzen and encode some bluray faster than what I can do right now with my old Phenom X6 1055T
What would be the cheapest mobo possible without however selecting a crappy one?
Ideally from MicroCenter or Amazon

Thanks

What is QVL?
Any recommendation for a cheap RAM (2 x 8GB) that will work fine ?
QVL means Qualified Vendor List , which is precisely the list of RAM that has been tested and found compatible with the motherboard.
This list exits on the internet support page for each and every motherboard.
If a RAM model is not on this list, it does not mean automatically that it is not compatible; just that it has not been tested and found compatible.

The RAM manufacturers maintain exactly the same sort of lists, but the other way round, that is motherboards compatible with their RAM.
For example here the GSkill RAM configurator
https://www.gskill.com/configurator
Other brands as Crucial, Kingston and Corsair have the same sort of...

OK, thanks.....
Found this one "certified" on the GSkill website:
https://www.microcenter.com/product...desktop-memory-kit-f4-3200c16d-16gvkb---black
Now, I hope it's OK with a Ryzen 1st gen......
Ryzen 1st gen is very spotty with memory support and is only rated to 2666. I wouldn't expect better than 3000 or 2933, just to adjust expectations, especially by just setting XMP. If you don't mind tweaking with the timings manually you might get more than that.
