Me and 2 other guys are moving into an apartment for college. We are trying to decide what data plan we should get while trying to stay conservative on the price. The only 2 service providers in our area are centurylink and cable one. Centurylink offers unlimited data but only 40mbps download speeds and 4mbps upload speeds. However, it's only 40 dollars a month but I don't know if those speeds will cover 3 guys who like to play online video and stream movies because we won't be getting cable. Any advice on those topic would greatly appreciated! Cable one offeres faster speeds but for a cost. And we would only have around 500gb per month. Again thanks for the help!

Solution
500GB per month is more than adequate unless somebody is running a torrent server that will adversely affect everyone else trying to game or stream video.

40Mbps download is adequate for 3 users if you are only gaming and streaming video but not if you are trying to do multiple things each at the same time. I have 100Mbps Cableone with a 500GB a month soft cap and it is worth the cost IMO.

I'm sure glad I have never run into a ISP that has data caps. 40Mb/s isn't too shabby. Online gaming really doesn't utilize too much bandwidth, streaming in HD will hog up much more. If your all into gaming I could see you hitting the 500GB limit quick when some game clients are in the 40+GB range.

I think we are going to try the 40mbps for now and see if it's enough for us. I hope so because it's half the price as the 100mbps plan and it has no data cap. I hate monitoring my data Haha
