Dedicated and Integrated

I just had a question in my head about the RAM usage and Graphic Cards.

So hypothetically, let's say I'm using a.. say GTX 690 with a CPU that has an integrated graphics card.
If I run a hardcore game does integrated and dedicated share the memory or does dedicated completely take over??

Solution
The current technology is different between laptops and desktops. Desktops the insertion of a Dedicated Card turns OFF the Integrated and you run 100% of the time on the dedicated card. On laptops the addition of a dedicated card is used for when demands hit a point (games, video, etc.) and that 'switches' internally to the dedicated card. When writing Word or such 2D low demand applications the integrated is used. The purpose is to not use up the battery power of the laptop with constant illogical use of a heavy duty video card 'just to write a letter'.
For most systems, they only have the ability to run one or the other, they cannot be combined. Given how weak most integrated graphics are, anyways, I don't see it making much of an improvement unless you're really struggling to run a game.

So what happens if I unplug the VGA from the dedicated and plug into the mobo directly (while dedicated is in the PCIe slot)?
