Is a dedicated color coded shortcut mapped keyboard worth the investment?

look at logickeyboard.com

I thought about it, but then realised I could learn the shortcuts in a solid
day of editing on the new system anyway!

the only advantage they offer is the shuttle which can be bought separately
elsewhere

I have one that was given to me.

Is it worth the $100 or so? Not really...you learn the keyboard shortcuts
quickly anyway and then it's just a colorful
set of keys you don't need anymore.

For a "beginner" it might help though.

I agree with Steve. In an environment where people use the system, who
use it infrequently, it's a handy helper to find the right keys. Here
at my school we have a couple of them for our Discreet Edit-systems,
and it helps those who want to learn to use the keyboard. But after
some time they nailed the shortcuts (I notice the difference between
them looking at the keyboard when I train them, and the time it comes
to testing them), and wouldn't need the keyboard anymore. So, if you
use your NLE irregulary, and have troubles remembering the keys, by
all means, get one of those coloured keyboards.
