Dedicated GPU not being used.

I got a new graphics card for christmas a GTX 1060. The drivers from my previous graphics card which was a GTX 750 TI were GeForce and have been deleted off of my computer. When I first loaded up with my new graphics card MSI installed drivers to my computer but I believe my computer is using Intel graphics instead of my GPU. I have an Intel i5 and I was wondering how I fix this. Also when I try to open my Nvidia Control Panel nothing happens. Update: I have deleted my old drivers, tried to install new ones and it says it is not compatible. Still not working.

this maybe beginner's stuff. but did you connect the monitor to the motherboard instead of video card?

the hdmi cable is currently connected to my motherboard. when i put it into the video card my monitor turns off and nothing happens as someone has suggested this.

What is the make and model of your PSU?

You need a quality 400w unit with 20A available on the 12v rail(s).

If you had your computer on, with your monitor connected to the integrated graphics, you need to restart the computer. If the graphics card still refuses to work, you need to go into your BIOS/Device Manager and disable your integrated graphics in order to make your graphics card work. Good luck!

500 doesnt mean anything without a make and model. Many units labeled as 500w won't even be close, especially if it came with a prebuilt.

You might need to go into your motherboard bios and disable integrated graphics, if the bios doesn't automatically do this when you install the new videocard.
