Dedicated Shadowplay (NVENC) Card?

Does anyone know if you can use NVENC (Shadowplay) to manually record video, even if only a secondary GPU supports it... let's say a GTX 590 with a GTX 650?

If not with Nvidia's own Shadowplay software, what about with OBS (Open Broadcast Software)?

If you have a set up that has a secondary GPU that does support this, it would be wonderful if you could check and let me know.

Thank you, all, in advance! :)

The GTX 590, or the whole 500 series, for that matter, doesn't support it, it requires GTX 600+
I also do not have a modern intel CPU, either, so quick sync isn't available to me.

Lastly, OBS offers NVENC as an option for encoding, but it doesn't state whether it needs to be your main GPU, so that is why I am asking... I doubt Shadowplay allows this natively.

Edit: I assume, now that you've edited your post, that you read as 690?

i think the point of shadowplay is to render and record the game on the same card without the need of second card because they want to make more easier for user. but it needs new hardware that only exist on kepler and above. i'm sure nvidia never intended to make dedicated capture card with their shadowplay. actually shadowplay is just one of the side product they got with NVENC. i think the real focus with NVENC was their GRID ecosystem

While that is true, it doesn't mean that it isn't out of the real of possibility.
As I said, some people may have older nvidia hardware, such as a 590, that find no real reason to upgrade yet, and just want less of a hit when recording or streaming, and a cheap extra GPU could be their best bet, aside from getting a capture card..

Yeah for Shadowplay to do this natively, they would have to have a hand in it, but I think OBS may work... I'll be able to test this firsthand, later, as I'm getting a card that should have it enabled, and I'll report my results when I do.

While you cannot record with Shadowplay directly, you can record with OBS and probably similar software.

I tested this with a GTX 570 as my main card, and a GTX 660 in the secondary slot. There was no monitor connected to the GTX 660, but I was able to record the main monitor on the GTX 570.

I don't know if this works with AMD cards, but I am not willing to take the extra time to check into that right now.
