I inherited a pc from when my wife's step-dad died. At some point he must have opted to have a higher end Radeon card with two DVI ports. There is still a vga port and when I tried hooking up a vga monitor to the tower, there was no display. Is it possible the graphics card is over-riding the vga? Any help would be great. My second problem is after I get the display problem figured out, my wife's mom does not know the password to her former husband's computer. Is there a way around that? I read one I can remove the internal battery or move a jumper over...

Not only possible but that is exactly what happens in most systems, the motherboard disables the onboard video when an add-on video card is installed. Hook up the monitor to the video card. We can't help you with the password, either re-install Windows or she needs to remember the password.
