Defective monitor?

A used Sony 15" Trinitron monitor.

Plugged it into my old computer (W98SE) which displays fine on it's normal monitor.

This monitor: screen had normal display but totally green screen, also several
diagnal white lines across the screen. There is a color button but it has no
effect, so it stays green.

Wanted to confirm that this is defective?

Is it the color color circuitry in the montor that's likely causes this?

Sure sounds defective. Examine the pins of the VGA cable. A beny pin could be the cause of
the off-colour. The diagonal white lines are indicative of problems in the monitor itself.

If your other monitor displays normally on the same computer, then it is the monitor
that is the problem. Sounds like possibly one of the colour guns went out.

Would be helpful if you published the model number.
I can't remember a monitor made in the last decade that had a color
swtich. Most of them were digital interfaces with 9-pins.
Not compatible with your analog 15-pin VGA plug.

So, whatcha got? If the cable can disconnect from the monitor end,
count those pins too.

The retrace lines are indicative of a monitor fault. It looks like the
problem could be at or near the electron gun. It may be as simple as a
problem with the green video amp on the CRT PCB (eg dry solder joint),
or it could be as serious as a heater-to-cathode short internal to the
CRT.
