I'm looking at a lot of cases right now and the Arc Midi R2 caught my eye for it's balance of cooling and silence, plus price, the only thing that held me back is the color. Yes, that plain, boring black color. I was hoping I can get something in silver or titanium so I stumbled upon the Define R4. Really got me in the looks department, but one problem is cooling. I've read a lot of reviews and I've gotten mixed ratings. What do you think of the case?

I'll be using a 3770k (will be oc'ed to 4.2), cm hyper 212x and 7970 (which also will be oc'ed). Will the Define R4 have problems with these parts in mind? Are the stock fans good enough? Should I put another 140 in front just in case? Thanks in advance!

The airflow in the Define R4 will be perfectly sufficient for your build. It's a very popular case with good reason. You can install fans on the top, side and front, which will be plenty for only one GPU. The stock fans will also serve you absolutely fine, but if you want to add another 140, you may as well. There's never a downside to having more fans! 😛

My brother and I are using the Define R4.

Stock fans are more than plenty and you can change fan speed with the physical fan controller if you desire, for better air flow.

I've added another fan in the front, so I can run all the fans at their lowest RPM for absolute silence. It's a good case, with great cable management and the cooling is no worry at all. My CPU is always below 60 celcius and my GPU is always below 70 celcius, using default fan settings.

It's a good case and I couldn't imagine a better fitting case for myself. :)

Awesome! Thank you very much guys. By the way if ever Im going for the Define R4, I'll be going with a windowed one so no side fans for me.

Just out of curiosity, are there any other cases that match the Define R4? Especially in the looks department? The new 350D looks good as well but is only mATX and should cost more.

I don't think you'll find any with as good sound-cancelling, but the 300R, 400R and 500R, NZXT Phantom 410, Storm Enforcer, Storm Scout 2 and HAF 912 are all great choices. I would personally go with the R4 or the 410, depends on your taste in cases. :)

To tell you the truth, I'm not actually into the silent type cases. I just like the R4 'cause of the looks. The 410 is a bit "too much" for me when it comes to design. Same for the Enforcer. I don't like the Carbides (though the upcoming Air 540 looks tempting). The Scout 2, actually, I like. I've read reviews of it and all them just gave it an average score, but I do like the look of it, especially on gun metal color.

Awesome! I would honestly go for whichever you prefer the looks of. I believe the Scout 2 is cheaper(?), but not by much, so all it comes down to is looks. They are a similar size and have the same expandability. The thing I love about the R4 is the door on the front. I can't stand having ugly drive bays on the front of my PC. :S Of course, it's up to you. :)

Argh.. you just made me double think on the R4.. good problem though. :) More choice the better. Does the lack of 140mm compatibility on the Scout II hurt it as much as the reviewers say it does?

The airflow you'll receive from a 120mm vs a 140mm is so little that you most likely won't even notice it. As long as you have fans pushing air front to back at a decent rate then you'll have no trouble with temps at all. 😀
