Originally slated to occur in 2019, the Ethereum network's Merge event marks the point at which the blockchain's security and consensus mechanism switches from the current PoW (Proof of Work) model, in which miners use their GPUs to number-crunch transactions in the network, to the less hardware and energy-demanding Proof of Stake design. It's been delayed, again, but only by a few more months (supposedly).

The delays have been going for for years now. So this news is nothing surprising.

June, September, January, 2021, 2020, 9243. yesteryear, next year.

I'm being silly, of course; but the "fork", now called "Merge"; given how many times it has been delayed, is a joke now.
It makes "intel" delays, look like "intel" is "ahead" LOL
