delete write on flash drive

Is this something new or has this happened before? Do you get the same message if you try formatting it on another computer?

Right click on the drive in Windows File Explorer and then click on the security tab. Once you have done that make sure that you have permission to write to the drive. Be sure to look for your username. If it is not in the list then you may need to add it and give yourself the permission you need to write to the drive.

If this is new and the drive has worked in the past it is possible that the drive is corrupt and went into read-only mode to protect the files from accidental deletion. If that is the case then salvage what you can and get a new drive.

Update: I unselected my answer as the "Best Answer" since your problem has not been resolved.

Have you tried anything from my last post such as trying it in another computer?
Have you checked to make sure that you still have permission to write to this drive?
Did you properly eject the drive the last time you used it?

The more information you provide the easier it will be for someone to help you.

Yes I have tried it in another computer and it tells me the same thing it cannot open it because it is write protected. I have tried several different ways to get the write protection off and nothing works. Yes I ejected it properly ,but I cannot see if I have permission because it will not let me open it

I just did it now and I see no place for permission. I chose sharing and put in my first name. Still no help. I do not have anything on my computer that has to be opened by administrater. I have tried several fixes from administrater and still no good. It tells me the flash drive is working properly

kenrivers I may have discovered something to help you decide what the problem is. I ran properties and for used byts-0 and for free byts-0 and for capacity byts-0 So I think the thing is no good, now has no byts. I just can not understand why when I first ran it copyed stuff and now it won't. I did not check the capacity when I first used it. If you know of some reason please let me know if not Thank You Very Much for all your time and trouble.

If it shows the drive as being empty and you cannot format then it I'm guessing it is bad news and the flash drive is dead. The only two reasons I can think of for "write protected" on a flash drive would be a corrupted card or one the card is faulty. Was anything on the drive that you will be losing? I can only suggest something if you want to attempt to recover any files. I have nothing to offer on how to fix the drive.

Ken Rivers---No sir I had nothing important on it. The part I do not understand is why it said it was working properly. But I think like you said it is just flat no good. Thanks Very Much maybe next time George
