Question Deleted CapCut video export, how can I get it back? I have the raw footage and file backup

Hello.

I have recently made a video with CapCut that took me a very long time. I deleted the exported edited file of the video as well as the video on my backup drive to save storage.

Could the CapCut edits still be saved so I could use the raw footage I still have and re-export the video with my old edits? Is there a possibility that the edits I have made have been saved onto my backup drive and just require the source files to export?

Thanks for your time.

Generally deleting a file leaves the original data intact but Windows marks the file's storage space as available. Anything else saved thereafter may overwrite that space.

First and foremost do not save anything else to the backup drive. Although that may be too late there is nothing lost by attempting to recover the raw footage.

One possible tool is Recuva.

Take a look at the link/tool to get a sense of what may be possible.

Otherwise, simply hold on doing anything pending other questions, ideas and suggestions.

Another thought: check CapCut - it may have saved (by default) copies somewhere else just on its' own.

Bit of a stretch but no harm in checking.

Are you looking to recover the deleted end file, or are you thinking the edit choices were 'saved', and you can walk through the edits again to redo the render again?
I have the raw footage, so I'm looking to just recover the edits and redo the render.

The problem isn't with the raw files, I have those, it's with the edits. I am trying to recover the edits that I have made and I'm wondering if since I have everything saving to my backup drive, could I recover those edits ?

I am not aware of the file type making any difference when it comes to recovering the edits.

Generally the original file is saved in some manner and edits are made on a copy. Which is then saved during the editing process.

And the original file is not overwritten (if at all) until explicitly saved as an overwrite with the accepted edits.

If you, the editing app, or some other app saved the edited files to the backup drive then the edited files should be there.

The edited files may have a some specific file type that identifies the files as CapCut.

Or the edited files could be saved to some specific drive and folder path. Either a default path or an end-used defined path.

I found the following links:

https://www.reddit.com/r/CapCut/comments/yw7qb0/where_are_the_project_files_saved/

https://www.cisdem.com/resource/recover-deleted-capcut-videos.html

Hopefully, the edits were being saved either automatically or via interim prompts to do so.

And will be found in the designated drive and folder location.
