I was trying to fix my inability to do a windows update by doing a Windows reinstall over the top of my existing install.
I read about the need to turn off Fast Boot and Secure Boot to do a windows reinstall so I went in and did that, now I cannot boot at all.... My BIOS doesnt show any drives. I can see them on the POST screen though.
Its an ASUS Hero 8, drives are 2 x Corsair NVMe. Windows 10 build 2004.
Ive tried telling it to set the keys up again but that didnt do anything. I tried changing OS Type to "UEFI" and "Other OS" with no effect either.
Currently it just boots into bios every time.

I have my original WIN10 pro USB stick and I can boot off USB BUT when trying to install over the top of Windows it tells me I cannot do it via removeable media, I have to boot into windows first and do it from there.
Do I need to have the same build of WIN10 when reinstalling windows?

I cannot do a fresh install as I have a lot of needed data on there, this will have to be a "keep apps and data" type of install.

If you want to be sure of not losing data, install it on a (newly bought) disk.

Do you have a lot of custom settings in your BIOS? If not, reset all settings by removing the battery for 20 or so seconds. Put it back in and give it another go. I wonder how far that'll get you.

Where did you read that?!
If your old windows was booting with secure boot then you will need an installation media that is also made to boot into secure boot.
You can use rufus (google it) to make your usb files into a new usb that will boot into both, IF it doesn't already.

For windows install to keep all of your old things it has to do an update, if it does a install it will only keep your old stuff in a folder named windows.old and nothing in there will work out of the box.

My recommendation would be to put everything in the bios back to what it was,
hopefully that will make you boot back into your old windows.
Then take a full clone of the disk with windows on it and store it somewhere safe.
Then you can experiment with whatever you want to try.

Hi, I have tried putting the Fast Boot and Secure Boot settings back to how they were but to no avail.
The question becomes, after deleting secure keys can a drive still be booted from??

If you used the default keys with the old installation then you just need to re-enable the keys, depending on what mobo you have it might be called different things.
It could be restore factory keys or something else, tell us your mobo model, maybe somebody knows the exact setting.

Its an ASUS Crosshair HERO V111. I never touched the key setting during initial setup, so I presume it was default? I then deleted the keys today via "Clear secure keys", since then I have re-enabled "Default keys" I think it was.
Doing that though hasnt allowed me to boot, just goes into the bios on startup.
