I've watched some youtube vids on delidding cpu's and was just curious if it's a good idea or not. The concept seems legit, but im just worried ill damage my cpu. My current 3570k is @4.2 @1.2v, and I would like to push it as far as I can on air. The only thing holding me back are my temps @ 100% load. If I jump to 4.3, it gets to hot givin the amount of voltage it needs to be stable, so I was looking around youtube for a possible solution. If you guys have any insight on this it would be great!

Solution
How high are your temps? You didn't say exactly. I would only de-lid if:
a) I wasn't worried about ruining it
b) my temps were hitting the thermal limit\throttling
c) I had good cooling

What kind of CPU cooling are you using? Because you should be able to get much higher than 4.2 -4.3 GHz if you have adequate cooling, and still have manageable temps. If you are using a poor quality CPU cooler, or the stock Intel one, I would try getting a decent after-market cooler first. Its cheaper, and may solve your temp issues.
have you considered lapping the CPU and cooler mating surfaces? there are many vids on this but the concept is to sand down the mating surfaces so they as smooth as possible to create the best heat transfer surface possible.

you use wet sanding paper, taped to a piece of glass, in multiple grits to polish the mating surface. it removes the small imperfections in the mating surfaces.

Solution
Im using the cm 212. My temps using occt reach 70-75c tops right now @1.2v. If I just bump it up to 4.3 and just barley feed it a couple tenths more voltage, it hits thermal limits. I just really want to see if I hit the silicon lottery with this cpu, but I guess before I can really find that out I should invest in a better cooling solution.
