My Dell 1545 has been a real runner for many years. Very little problems. I've had to replace the Wi-Fi card and hard drive to keep it running.
The computer is running Linix-Lite 7.4. It has 4 GB memory that has passed the on-board test. The CPU (Intel 9600, an upgrade) and a digital 350 GB hard drive.
The laptop is now taking a long time to boot up. At least 4 minutes, which is not normal for this laptop. Normally it was 60 seconds.
The CPU has new silver heat sink compound and is running at 110 degrees F under a load, such as a video. The heat exchanger does not appear to have leaked, and the fan is running and will boost its speed as required. No dust in the cooling system.
Every so often, the laptop will lock up. A reboot and all is well for several hours or a day or so.
I've swapped out the hard drive and the same problem will happen. I'm not sure what the problem is? The CPU? The WI-FI card? Memory?
When the laptop is first turned on, the Dell software runs instantly, then the screen goes blue with a flashing cursor in the upper left-hand corner of the display. The computer runs for 4 minutes and then boots to the home page. There is no "spinning-wheel" or any indications the computer is doing anything during boot-up, but once up at the home page, the computer runs in a normal speed, until it locks up, or I shut it down
Thank you for any helpful info.
