Dell 2405FPW High light generation question. Also setup?

Hey, I just got the Dell 2405FPW LCD monitor and it is outputing alot of light. Now I'm not quite sure if this is just because of the shapness of the monitor or if the brightness is set to high. I tried lowering the brightness and contrast but I couldnt find a good setup. Wht I have the brightness set even as low as 0 its still really bright. Is there anything I need to do to propperly set up my monitor? Its weird casue even when the picture is pretty dark the monitor still seems to hurt my eyes. Is there anything I can do to make the picture a little softer on my eyes and still have a decent brightness level?

EDIT- Oh it seems to be the contrast that makes the picture so bright. And its not so bad when I have dark colors displayed its primarily when there is alot of white as it almost blinds me. Thanks again

I know that some times LCDs have to have their colors adjusted manually to get the best picture, do you guys recommend any programs or what not for me to use to make sure that I am seening the best possible image on my computer? I am running the desktop at the native resolution of 1920X1200

How do I watch widescreen videos useing the entire monitor? Right now when I try to play a dvd I get black bars on all four sides, I assume this is becuase they widescreen dvds add bars to the bottom and top. Is there a way to make it so that the unused black bars don't display and instead the video takes up most or the entire screen?

mine seems fine as far as brightness although i like a bright screen. try adjusting the colour settings. just fiddle with them as they are user preference so others opinions dont really matter. as for the black bars make sure you are using the native res and that you have the corect aspect ratio set in you dvd program.

My cpu is definately in the native resolution.
As for the correct aspect ratio for the dvd playback program, when i put it in widescreen or 16X9 it simply stretches the image to fill the window all the way to the left and right but does not remove the black bars from below the image. So I have a rediculously scewed image andstill have bars on the bottom and top of my video playback of the same size as before.
Any suggestions?
(I have tried windows media player 10, ati's player and divx's player)

perhaps the films you are watching are best suited to the size it gives you. i believe the dell is actually a 16:10 ratio and so a movie in 16:9 ratio cannot be displayed full size. you will always get black bars along the top and bottom. you could just set your gfx card option to fill the panel woth the image, but again yu lose image qaulity.

if you can change your aspect ratio to 16:10 but since movies probably are in 16:9 your screwed, sorry.

Part 1 - I agree, its realy bright. You need to turn down the color as well as the brightness to get it out of "retina burner" mode". Try:

Red - 10
Green - 20
Blue - 10
Brightness - 20

Part 2 - There are a few web sites that give color charts. Cant remember the names, Do a Google search and you should find them.

Part 3 - Make sure you have the scaling set to aspect in the image settings menu. If you are running the desktop at 1200 x 1920 it wil be greyed out. Change the desktop to another reolution, then you can adjust it.
