Dell 400sc why it shows only 256mb when i have installed 2gb

how can i have this dell poweredge 400sc to make it read all available ram in it. bios shows 2gb ram there are 4 sticks of 512mb in each slot. but usable is only 256mb. since it's reading only 256mb it is super slow responding just installed fresh xp on it. anyone can help me can please how to fix this issue

Are all the ram sticks identical (same brand, same model)? Is the ram recommended for your motherboard (ecc buffered or unbuffered)? If the answer to both questions is yes, then you can try resetting the motherboard bios by removing the board battery for one minute with the power supply unplugged, then reinstall. Cpuz will confirm if the ram is detected, and how much on the post screen.

I will try to do that tonight.

I have 2 different manufactures 2 of each stick. each stick is 512mb both of these manufacture has same specs.
now i check in bios memory shows 2048gigs 4 x 512mb. which is actually what i am looking for. when each stick
is 512mb
