Dell 5100 incompatible?

The CardBus drive seems to be incompatible with a lot of PC Card.

Fact:
->Windows XP-home (Dutch)
-> My Dell Inspiron 5100 (2,4 Mhz intel)
-> 802.11G network card. (211G(+) Tornado PC Card (www.tornado.nl))

When i insert the PC Card, the screen turns black and the computer
reboots. It continuously to reboot, until i remove the PC Card.

Other PC Cards work. I tried a 3com network card and another 802.11G
PC Card of another brand (i don't know the brand).
The 211G works in other computers with a different configuration
running the same OS (i think it was XP Pro.)

It is impossible to adjust the BIOS to not allocate IRQ's.

Searching the net, i found people with similar problems especially the
compaq Evo 1020N.

Both Dell and Compaq use the Texas Instruments TI PCI-4410 as CardBus
driver. Software driver is signed by Microsoft. Version 5.1.2600.0
dated 1-7-2001.
I re-installed Windows and updated in stages, continuously trying to
install the PC Card. All XP and Dell-BIOS where (re-)installed.

Tornado is looking for a solution. They think the CardBusdrive
software driver is causing the problem.
Dell doesn't support cards that don't work... if one works, the device
works. (sic.)

I don't want to guide your search in the wrong direction, but...
support text 295629 describes more or less the same problem. But this
is a fix for problems with windows 2000.

PC-Cards are *not* generally supported by native XP drivers so that PnP
installation is not typical. Exceptions are the old standby ethernet
cards. It is the typical case in XP that a PC-Card driver is installed
before the card is inserted, then the XP PnP works since there is a
driver to associate with the card. This requires, of course, an
XP-compatible driver for the card.

no... it is far more compicated than that. (BTW: other PC Cards,
802.11 G too, do work in my laptop: are recognized by Windows XP).
It seems that the BIOS of the Dell5100 is incompatible with the
chipset used in the specific Tornado 211G PC Card. (Forgot the
type... sorry... tell you later). Same problem existed with the
Compaq 9000 series. Compaq solved it with a bios-update.
My PC Card is now shipped to Ireland where the technicians work on a
sollution... i hope... it has been three weeks now.
