Hey guys,

Just got a pretty sweet deal from Microsoft Store during their Black Friday Sale, the Alienware X51, here are the specs:

Core i7-2600 3.40 GHz, 8GB RAM (DDR3) ,1TB Hard Drive, BlueRay, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 555 with 1 GB

So I was fortunate enough to got it for $599 + Tax (Is this a good deal BTW? I started to doubt myself, lol)

Here is the story, I'm still running a PC I built back in 2008, and I think it is still very decent, but I'm thinking taking the X51 apart and use some of the "left-overs" to build a new PC, so here are the major specs (and some of the parts that I plan on transplanting):

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 @2.66 GHz 2.67 GHz
4 GB DDR2
and my motherboard that will only run DDR2

(parts that will be transplanting):
RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-730SS 730W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply (transplanting)

SAPPHIRE 11188-22-20G Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card (OC Edition)

Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

So these are what I have on hand, and I'm planning to get a new case (I really like the sleek alienware design, but it just won't work if I want to build... too bad)

Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case (I believe it is compatible with X51 motherboard I assume?)

Should I go through all the troubles? Or should I just sell the X51, and spend the money on separate parts?

Please feel free to share your thoughts! I really appreciate your time to read my story!

Best,

Jacob

Depends, the X51 can be used as a on the go desktop, however if you don't see any value in it go ahead and sell it I'm sure some one would love it, keep the blu ray drive if your PC doesn't have one, however the X51 uses a slot loading drive so it may be a hassle to put in considering how thin it will be. Keep the HDD too if you have the space for it or just a back up. For a deal like that and not to mention it uses more modern parts, In my opinion if the HD 6950 can work on it, I'd sell the custom built instead, but that's just me.

Thanks for the input Hirachi!

Unfortunately, the 6950 will not fit into the alienware case, and also the external power supply (330W) will not be enough to support the 6950 as well.

I just opened up the X51, and the compact design is awesome, I really don't want to take them apart! Also the case is sleek and awesome too!

Can't seem to make up my mind now...

Take the processor, hard drive,motherboard,blu-ray and ram from the X51 and Psu,hd6950 and ssd from the other pc and combine it.Get urslef a nice case or u can reuse the antec.I suggest u the Noctua NH-D14 or just Evo 212+ for the cooler.
