Hi,

I need help with unlocking my Dell Chromebook 11 3180.

I bought it myself for school purposes, my school has locked it (as with every chromebook).

Now I would like to turn on the developer's stand, but this is not possible because my school has put this out.

I would like to set up Linux Mint.

your school locks it because they have standards for school privacy and security.
you can install Linux on it but you will have to wipe the drive and therefore loose the ability to get to using the school chrome OS.

you could get an external USB drive and install Linux mint on the usb drive that way you can boot from usb drive when you need Linux and boot on Hdd when your at school

only solution I can see that makes sense for the best of both worlds, and since a nice 64GB drive is like a few dollars, and 128/256Gb are a little more it can be a nice alternative.

But how do I get into devoloper mode?

Esc, refresh and power. (Works)
Than ctrl-D, chromebook says “develop mode is deactivated by your admin”.

If I restore my chromebook with a recovery usb, it is still locked by school.

So, my question is,
Is there a tool that bricks my chromebook that I have to restore it with a Recovery USB? And then that my chromebook is full to factory settings?

I can only boot into a custom os if devoloper mode is activated.

Did the school make you sign a piece of paper stating they would be locking out the bios on your own PC ?
Did they also include that when school was done, your possession would be returned in the original state it came in (*original OS before they "school secured it*)

if they did.. well sorry that is that.
if not, you could argue you need access to your bios, but once locked, only they can unlock it again. (password based)

I’m done with my school but they didnt restore my chromebook.
