I already have a primary PC, and I have a Dell Dimension 1100/B110 there not being used at all. Was wondering if I could take apart the components in it and upgrade it to be used as a backup PC or component tester if the primary PC's components get spoiled.
Could I fit a MSI B85M-E45 with an Intel G3258 in it? Or anything cheaper?

Thanks.

I'd find out what the b110 case's most likely intel motherboard is. Look at the size first then find a motherboard of the same size spec itx or m-atx. Then look for a build based on that.

As far as cpu's go for just surfing and watching video's i'd say maybe look into at least a 4 core i3 with or without hyper threading is up to you. Cause when you get multiple applications open that dual core chip's going to have some performance issues.
Yes if the chipsets supports lga 1150. But know this, it also depends On the kind of chipset some chipsets won't allow you to overclock on a motherboard, others won't let you use sli or crossfire configurations aka more then one gpus.

My advice i'd go with something that allows k processor overclocking, at least thats if you plan on overclocking your g3258. If you really want to get the most out of your cpu that's what i'd do but their's nothing wrong with choosing the motherboard you're looking at.

Thanks for the reply! But this backup will just be used for surfing the net and watching videos in the case that the primary gets spoiled, so don't think overclocking will be needed, just looking for a cheap and good CPU with integrated graphics.

More importantly is whether the motherboard would be able to fit into the Dell Dimension B110 case and if there are any modifications that need to be done to the case?

Great! Yeah maybe I'll go for an i3. As for the case, if I'm not mistaken, a standard m-atx would fit. Just hope there won't be too many modifications needed. I'll ask around in other forums to double/triple check!
Thanks!

np. Gl wit the build. :) But i don't think you'll need to hack anything off to make it fit. If you do i'd be wary about traces among other things.
