Hello all,

I have just recently bought an XFX 1GB 8600GT graphics card for my Dell Dimension 5150 PC, and am having issues with this new hardware change - namely a blank screen when i attempt to restart the computer. The entire system seems to turn on - harddrive activates, motherboard light is on, the fan on the graphics card spins, but i get no display on the screen. There are led lights - 1234 - on the front of the del - it is only getting to 4 (but i dont know if this is because it is requiring me to make some changes for the new hardware - i cant see the screen :S

I have replaced the graphics card with the original Radeon X600 for the mean time, and I am hoping that someone can walk me through in stages exactly how i should go about installing the new one.

I have already uninstalled all ATI, Control Panel and Uninstaller software from the computer, and used a driver cleaner to remove traces of the old ATI drivers. (I believe the computer is currently using internal graphics) Actually fitting the new gpu is not a problem, but a walkthrough would be very useful because i must be missing some steps. Thank you.

Also - it has just occured to me to query the significance of my monitor and computer working correctly when i return to the old ATI graphics card? Im not sure.

I'm having the exact same problem as bk here, but I'm running an XPS 410 Dell. I did a complete system restore just a few days ago, have new hard drive, 3 GB RAM (I've been doing a bit of upgrading 😛) Not sure what else to do?? 😱

I have similar problem XFX 8500GT adding to Dell 5150 desktop. Its BIOS issue, with dell not accepting the card, I tested the card in another computer PICE slot and it works perfectly fine. System is out of warranty and DELL dont wana know about it. But regardless of warranty or not its Problem in buggy DELL BIOS, i did BIOS upgrade to latest version available for that motherboard though dell site but in vain, issue is not addressed pitty they should have fixed it. I am afarid i am still struggling to find a way around if, if some one found it, plz email me at

I will have to add, though Dell sounds cheaper compartive to other compitators but when it comes to parts and service they are most expensive and crap.

What issue ?
There are far too many people using such a configuration for there to be any widespread issue.

I understand what are you saying, but I have exactly same problem as other user identified, with 100% similar symptoms, I have been using and building computer for ages, Same card works perfectly fine with other Motherboards, its just Dell its not working with. I can't see anything wrong with the card but with the Dell BIOS probably failing to address 1GB graphics memory or anything.. I dont know... I dont want to buy an other dell board just for testing purpose, it has already left me sore with wasting my money to upgrade memory and graphic card on it.
