Hey,

I just bought some more RD RAM for my Dell Dimension 8200,

It currently has
2x 128 Samsung 800 - 40 (On RAM Label) Currently in RIMM slot 3 & 4

So I bought this this pair today
2x 128 Samsung 800 - 45 (On RAM Label)

So when I stick the new RAM in the spair slots, it loads up and says

Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A06

Unsupported Memory was detected in slots:

RIMM 1
RIMM 2

Please replace with RD RAM PC 800 - 40ns or faster.

New RAM was placed in the spare slots RIMM 1 and RIMM 2

I have also tried sticking the RAM in these slots:

RIMM 1 128 Samsung 800 - 45
RIMM 2 128 Samsung 800 - 45
RIMM 3 128 Samsung 800 - 40
RIMM 4 128 Samsung 800 - 40

Then

RIMM 1 128 Samsung 800 - 40
RIMM 2 128 Samsung 800 - 40
RIMM 3 128 Samsung 800 - 45
RIMM 4 128 Samsung 800 - 45

Still got the same error as above.

Lots of places sell 800 - 45 RAM for Dell 8200 computers, why doesnt it work?

Thanks,

try running the new ram alone, take out the old sticks. If it works then its a problem with 2 sticks being 40ns and 2 sticks being 45 ns.
Youll need to get 4 matching sticks

well i wouldnt take the 2 out because doesnt rdram have to have a group or whatever, so you would have to fill all the slots im assuming..

Yes, your problem is, you're trying to run 45ns RDRAM in a system where 40ns is REQUIRED. Dell is VERY SPECIFIC in following Intel's recommendations here: Intel never validated PC1066, so instead forced special 40ns PC800 as THE solution for 533 bus P4's using the i850E chipset.

You need PC800-40.
