Dell dimension c521 starts up but shuts down 10 to 20 seconds later

when i turn on the computer, it starts up, the fan starts, the lights on the front come on- then after 10 to 20 seconds later it shuts off

Does the computer POST? Do you hear the POST beep?

At what point in the boot process does the computer shut off? There are codes (LED) that you will see on the front panel. These codes will explain what went wrong. These codes will be found in your manual. If you do not have a manual, download one at "support.dell.com" bu entering the Service Tag number.
