I am looking for someone who has done this SPECIFICALLY to one of these 2 units.
I did a bios update and for my first time in over 1,000 units, the update completed, and would no longer post. Powering on the unit causes nothing but a black screen. No key combinations are responsive.
I found all types of how-to's to flash a bios using CTRL + ESC keys, but that method seems to be for computers just a couple years NEWER than the E6540, and I don't think the 6540 supports it.
I have also tried an older method where someone suggests writing hdrfiles and romfiles along with the bios update onto a bootable flash drive, but this particular bios file doesn't allow me to do a /writehdrfile or /writeromfile (when doing it, elevated CMD prompt gives no errors, but writes no files)
I also tried removing bios battery & rebooting to no avail.
Is there ANYBODY who has experience with this model who would perhaps have another suggestion? The LED error codes still work (Known because I tested this by taking out the ram and booting)
I will do whatever is necessary to make THIS laptop work again. Any tools and software that is needed, I can get. I have experience ripping apart laptops and putting them together, and would not be even REMOTELY shy from a complete tear-down on this unit if necessary.
I'm even willing to try and short things if people have real life success in doing so with this particular unit...
(specifically the 6540, but the 6440 carries a LOT of the same hardware, so I'd be willing to test 6440 methods on a 6540 since the only major difference is screen & chassis size.
