Hello,

My current CPUZ software DRAM frequency as 798.8 mhz. Dell says my laptop can have a RAM of 1600 mhz. Should I upgrade the RAM?

Please help me out here.

Solution
That's okay.

Ram has something called DDR (Like DDR3 and DDR4), this stands for Double Data Rate.

Your RAM is running at 1600MHz because there is two 800MHz frequencies.

Hence,

800x2 = 1600MHz.
The RAM operates not at the peak of each cycle but on the rise, and fall of each cycle. So it's twice the speed of the motherboard frequency that CPUZ is reporting. The above answer is correct.
For best performance you should have 2 matching RAM modules installed. This is called Dual Channel and is different than DDR. The RAM has to take time off to "refresh". With 2 modules one will be working while the other "refreshes". If you have that then you have a good setup. 2x4GB is better than 1x8GB. Sometimes to save money, or save a little power they may use a single module.
