This was expected. Dell did something very similar to offer Windows 2000 beyond it's End of Life, so naturally they are doing the same with XP. It's only making headlines now because anything that adds more fuel to the XP vs. Vista argument makes headlines.

MicroCenter.com has been advertising PowerSpec systems with a similar option. But many advanced users don't care since it is easy to get Windows XP Black Edition which comes with many popular applications already installed and is entirely free. :D

nice, you get 2 OSes- windows xp and vista
I would keep vista (i prefer it to XP) and keep the XP CD just in case something goes wrong

So, you PAY for Vista even though you are going to skip it... if it's just money what it takes for MS to be happy and stop forcing upgrade and leave us the choice of the OS, well, the logical ending of this sentence is not that logical... GO LINUX! Maybe this is the time for me to switch...
