Question Dell i5-9300 Laptop Driver Issues

Dell G3 Gaming Laptop 15.6", i5 NVIDIA GTX1050, 8GB, 1TB


Hello, My daughters laptop has started having issues with drivers. This is a Dell i5-9300 2.4 64bit 8G memory. In the past 2 weeks she cannot play any of her games because of missing drivers. Laptop was bought in 2019 and is modeled off the alienware.

When I go in and try to add all of the updates, it won't take any of them. It will let me download the updates but when it has finished it always says not installed. This has never happened to this laptop before. I also know it needs a bios update and it won't let me do that either. The only thing I've found online is not to use Dell's automatic assist for the drivers.

Can anyone please help and tell me how I can fix this? Thank you.

That one is odd, but so is the hardware error. I wonder if the GPU had died. If this rig still under warranty?

What does the system have listed under Control Panel/Device Manager/Display Adapters? Do you have both an Intel (integrated) and Nvidia (dedicated) GPUs listed?

That explains why the Nvidia driver install failed. It appears to be missing (defective?).

You really should reach out to Dell. Only 3 days out of warranty, they may still help.

If it is the GPU, can I change it on a laptop?

Typically, no. Consumer grade laptops lack a user replaceable GPU. High-end rigs, like mobile workstations support MXM mounted GPUs that can be swapped.

You really should reach out to Dell.

In the meantime, you could try a complete re-install of Windows to see if this is really a corrupted OS issue (at least in getting the Intel GPU to work). Also, take a look at the Dell's BIOS to make sure that the dedicated GPU isn't disabled for some reason.
