I have a Dell Inspiron 1564 3108 i3 CPU M330 @ 2.13GHz with 4bg ram which is really slow and heats up really fast. I am thinking of upgrading the CPU to i5 or i7, increasing the ram- either 8gb or 16gb increasing storage and changing the fan. Please advise what kind of CPU, ram, hard drive would suit this laptop. Any advice is much appreciated.

Solution
1. search online (dell support) for the service manual

Order the memory for the laptop from DELL or check with Kingston.com
for the compatible type of memory.
DON'T BUY FROM THE COMPUTER SHOP AT ALL
they will give some gibberish random useless memory i.e. KVR ram.
This type of memory will work for first few weeks after that it will slow down the system and worse crash your windows operating system.

Comparing RAM Price you are better off with Kingston than DELL HELL.
Because DELL is always over price and over kill.

They are mounted, so you can upgrade the CPU. Based on the chipset, this is some CPU upgrade option did you have : https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/HM55_Express.html

Based on specs paper here : https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/...ptop/inspiron-1564_reference guide2_en-us.pdf
you have max upgrade up to 8GB RAM, since they have 2 slot, that means each slot supported up to max 4GB. and make sure the ram speed is 1066Mhz to make it work on the laptop.

And for the drive, SSD will give a big improvement, any 2,5 inch Sata SSD will work on the laptop.
