Hi

I am a PhD student looking to buy a new laptop. I work in a lab that does a lot of proteomics analysis using software like MaxQuant and ProteomeDiscoverer. These software's depend on the processing power and writing speed to finish the analysis faster. Therefore, I wanted something until 1.000 CAD, i5 8th gen, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Nvme, portable and as upgradable as possible.

I know I might be nitpicking but I didn't want onboard (soldered) RAM and if possible Bluetooth 5.0 (not so sure about this last one).

What are your thoughts? So far I found the ThinkPad E590 and Inspiron 15 5584.

Thank you in advance!

I would go with a Lenovo over a Dell for sure, which one depends on the exact specs and models available in your area. Look for a quad core or higher CPU, the U models are made for lower power, if you can find one without that in your budget would be better. Don't worry about the laptop being up-gradable, past larger drive and maybe more RAM you won't be changing anything.

This MSI may be OK, better CPU than most $1,000 business systems https://www.xoticpc.com/msi-gf63-thin-9sc-652.html
