Question Dell Inspiron 3521 ram upgrade

Hello everybody. I want to upgrade the RAM on my Dell Inspiron 3521. I still have the 4gb RAM from buying the laptop. I want to upgrade my RAM to 12gb. That mean adding a 8gb RAM. The Dell site says that the inspiron 3521 are compatible up to 8gb ram, 4gb in each slot. But the Crucial site says it compatible up to 16gb RAM, 8gb in every slot. Can I add a 8gb RAM (4gb + 8gb = 12gb) or it will cause problem to the laptop and then i should buy a 4gb RAM?

I've just check and it's only upgradable to 8 GB DDR3. Also, it's recommended to buy dual kit to avoid running into compatibility issues.

If I buy one 4gb RAM DDR3 and mix it with the other one that is already in the laptop? Will it cause compatability issues?
