Dell Inspiron 3847 Upgrade ability

So I have a dell tower and I ended up a year ago getting a GTX 760 and a new 700w power supply in it then around 4 months later I got a GTX 970 and the same power supply, I have 320 dollars right now and I want to get a new case. Would I be able to take the motherboard from the dell and my gpu, cpu ect and move it to a new case or would I need to buy a seprate mobo just for the new case and would I have to update my bios because when it comes to that stuff im really stupid and dont know what a bios ect is but im getting a new i5 4690k along with the new case and I cant fit a decent mobo in my price range along with the case and new cpu thanks guys for your help

Any mid or full ATX case will be fine. I think the 4690k will work, just be absolutely sure it is listed as supported by your motherboard, you may need a BIOS update so follow Dells instructions for that. Just because it's the right socket does not automatically mean it's supported.

However if you get the k version you still won't be able to overclock, the Dell motherboard is not designed for overclocking. If you don't want to overclock then a normal 4690 is ok. If you fo want to overclock things are going to get expensive, as well a needing a Z97 motherboard you will need a new cpu cooler as overclocking generates more heat but you will also need a new copy of Windows. Your copy of Windows that came from Dell is OEM and is tied to the original motherboard, by changing the motherboard you are going outside your licence agreement and will need a new windows key code. Also we need to know what 700w PSU you have, quality of the unit is more important than the wattage alone and only good quality psu's should be used for overclocking. Low quality psu's should be completely avoided whatever pc you are putting them in.

Bottom line don't by Dell, HP or similar prebuilts if you think you want to upgrade in the future. They use low quality parts and are not designed with upgrades in mind.

alright so im selling a few other things and ill be able to get windows 7 again with a new mobo case and processor, and the ram that came with the dell computer its 8gb ddr3 would it be able to work in a new mobo? and the hard drive would i be able to transfer that as well? and if theres anything else im forgetting tell me please and thank you for your help 😀 and the psu costed me around 80 usd I cant find the box to remember the brand but it said something like gaming cable management ready

i replace mi DELL Case to a Corsair 300r due the heat was generating the GPU, the motherboard is a standart ATX the only thing that you will need to mod its the power button cable to power up.

i am at work now later can i post a pic.
